This Medical Expert Training is a two-day hands-on training course and provides an extensive overview of the peripheral bronchoscopy field. The first day is dedicated to the techniques, procedure steps and recorded patient cases. On day two, after transmission and discussion of live cases from Rouen university hospital you will have the opportunity to intensively practice the techniques in the tutored hands-on training.
The diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions has been a challenge over the past decades and the range of diagnostic procedures is wide. Additionally, as the field is moving towards earlier stage diagnosis of lung cancer pulmonologists will see more and more peripheral lesions in their daily practice.
Transthoracic needle aspiration (TTNA) is still the conventional approach in several countries for its high diagnostic yield (90%). However, the high procedure related pneumothorax rate of TTNA (25%) makes it crucial to explore new and less invasive techniques. The development of technologies like radial EBUS probes (R-EBUS) and ultrathin bronchoscopes have been a major improvement for physicians. The same study by JS Wang Memoli et al reports that using bronchoscopic sampling reduced the risk of pneumothorax to 1.5%. Thus putting peripheral bronchoscopy for the diagnosis of peripheral lesions in the spotlight.
The course will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the latest peripheral bronchoscopy techniques, technologies and clinical evidence available with renowned experts in this field but also to discuss “real-life” experiences with the faculty to support their practice or the future implementation of peripheral bronchoscopy at their sites
