Premature infants may face a higher risk of respiratory problems due to their underdeveloped lungs. Term infants may also develop respiratory complications. Infants with respiratory distress syndrome experience elevated work of breathing levels and will often require respiratory support. Continuous positive airway pressure and biphasic positive airway pressure via a generator interface are established treatments for respiratory distress syndrome in these infants.

In this lecture Dr Padmanabhan Ramnarayan & Amy Hunter will discuss the following:

• Non-invasive ventilation for neonates and infants

• The impact of work of breathing for neonates and infants

• Skin integrity for these patients receiving non-invasive ventilation and the impact of skin injury

• Developmental care factors for these patients receiving non-invasive ventilation
