Prof. Marcos Cepeda

Overview

Dr. Marcos Cepeda, senior urologist in the Endourology and Laparoscopy Unit of the HURH since 2009, was born in 1979 in Valladolid, Spain. He completed his medical studies at the University of Valladolid (UVA) in 2003, where he obtained his MD. He finished his residency in Urology at the Río Hortega University Hospital (HURH) also in Valladolid in 2009 and obtained his PhD by the UVA in 2011. He had urology training at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, USA, focusing on robotic surgery. His career has been centered in Endourology and Laparoscopy. He collaborates with the UVA Medical School Department of Surgery since 2013, and since 2018 he is professor of Urology at the same institution. In 2013, he took the European Board of Urology examination. He is author and co-author of over 25 chapters of textbooks, 30 publications, 200 communications and collaborates with different research projects. He has participated as lecturer in numerous national and international courses, including live surgery. He is an instructor in Endourology courses at HURH and at the Cáceres Jesús Usón Center of Minimally Invasive Surgery. His activities in the Spanish National Meeting include 5 years teaching the course of retrograde intrarenal surgery and leading the percutaneous nephrolithotomy course. He is an affiliate member of the European Section of Urolithiasis (EULIS) and the European Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT). So far, he has been awarded 18 prizes and 3 grants for his contributions to Endourology and Laparoscopy. Since 2018, he is the Coordinator of Resident Tutoring and Quality Supervisor of his Department and he has started the Robot-Assisted Surgery Program.
