High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) is an alternate mode of mechanical ventilation that delivers small tidal volumes at rapid ventilation rates and may lead to less ventilator-induced lung injury (1) and a reduced risk of acteletrauma (2). Its use in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) varies (2). In many PICU’s, HFOV is often a mode that clinicians consider when infants and children are failing conventional ventilation (3).

During this virtual symposium, Prof. Daniele De Luca will discuss:

• HFOV as a mode of ventilation, including parameters and settings

• Which patients and conditions where HFOV could be used

• Case studies to understand the application of HFOV

• The role of active expiration in HFOV
