Part 1: Highlights of the ERS/ATS Technical Standard on Standardisation
of the Measurement of Lung Volumes - 2023 Update
This session will provide an overview of the key recommendations in the updated technical standard. These include standardisation of linked spirometry, generalisation of the multiple breath washout concept beyond nitrogen, differentiation of inert-gas technologies, panting vs tidal breathing during testing in a body plethysmograph, a new acceptability and grading system with examples of tracings distinguishing manoeuvres of different grades. Use of GLI reference values. Standardised operator comments and sequence of lung function measurements.
June 26, 5pm CET
Part 2: Practical Overview of Test Performance and Quality Assurance
This session will include an overview of the practical aspects of implementing the update. How to perform a lung volumes test according to the new update. How to review a test using the new acceptability/usability and grading system.
The update also recommends a new equipment quality control and validation protocol including a requirement for isothermal lung mechanical models for calibration and verification of body plethysmographs. A step-by-step overview of the quality assurance procedure for a body plethysmography will be demonstrated.
This program has been approved for 2.00 contact hours Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) credits by the American Association for Respiratory Care, 9425, N. MacArthur Blvd, Suite 100, Irving TX 75063

Superb content, relative, and well explained. I’m a second year respiratory physiology student and I appreciate the content is accessible for all levels. The importance of standardisation was clearly explained, alongside detailed information of not just the processes but also why. Outstanding presentation, thank you
