LAser In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most popular refractive corneal surgery technique for ametropic patients to correct refractive errors.

In recent years, there has been a growing trend toward the use of Sub-Bowman Keratomileusis (SBK) that is thin-flap LASIK with an intended flap thickness of 100 microns on average, both centrally and in corneal periphery, thus providing a uniform-shaped thin LASIK flap.

SBK can be considered as a hybrid approach that combines the advantages of surface ablation with those of lamellar approaches:

·        compared with a conventional (thicker) flap, an intended regular thin flap of 100 microns leaves a thicker residual stromal bed, thereby preserving corneal biomechanical strength and potentially decreasing the risk for postoperative corneal ectasia;

·        in addition, refractive and visual outcomes of SBK have been found to be comparable to or better than those of standard LASIK in terms of faster visual recovery, better predictability, better contrast sensitivity, and a lower rate of enhancements.

Moria stands at the forefront of SBK surgery by having introduced a dedicated automated linear microkeratome, called “One Use-Plus”, with multiple types of suction rings to further customize:

·        flap dimensions to fit every excimer laser treatments, from high myopia to high hyperopia with or without astigmatism;

·        flap shape to create round or oval-shaped flaps as per surgeons’ preferences.

This webinar provides a deep scientific understanding of why and how the One Use-Plus automated microkeratome by Moria allows every patient to benefit from SBK as the refractive procedure of choice.

Speakers will present their results when using the One Use-Plus SBK microkeratome vs femtosecond lasers:
