Board-certified in Plastic Surgery, Dr. Mark Clemens is the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Perioperative Services and a Professor in plastic surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Clemens research focus has been on Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Dr. Clemens serves as an invited content expert to the US FDA and the European Ministry of Health on breast implant safety, and is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Center Network responsible for international guidelines on the treatment for BIA-ALCL.

In addition to his work with BIA-ALCL, he continues to maintain a diverse practice, including being a member of the surgical team that performed the world’s first skull and scalp allotransplantation in 2015. Dr. Clemens has lectured in 28 countries and published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and 50 book chapters.

After receiving his Medical Doctorate from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine, Dr. Clemens completed his Plastic Surgery residency at Georgetown University. In 2010, he came to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where he completed a fellowship in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Clemens is an active researcher whose interests include BIA-ALCL, long term implant outcomes, robotic-assisted, microvascular, and reconstructive surgery of the breast.
