Pr Jean-Marc Baste has been a consultant in General and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Rouen University Hospital, Normandy, France, since 2008.
He is a specialist in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and has been involved in international trainings (VATS and RATS) since 2011.
He is also active in the development of team simulation in thoracic surgery and improvement of surgical safety in the modern environment of minimally invasive surgery.
He is a member of the French Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Society (FTCVS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgery (ESTS).
For 3 years, his team has developed a breakthrough in RATS using combined multimodal images :
- 3D planning
- pleural dye tanning
- virtual reality
This combination of images allows a new concept of precision navigation for lung resection which we call : Thoraco-Navigation (ThoracoNavigation is an assisted surgery technique. NeuroNavigation is a guided surgery technique).
This ThoracoNavigation system will open a new Era of Thoracic surgery for early stage cancer treatment.
