Overview
Prof. Alain Cribier, MD, has been for 20 years the Chief of Cardiology at Hospital Charles Nicolle, University of Rouen, France. He is since 2011 Professor Emeritus and Consultant at this University. He graduated from the University of Paris. After a fellowship at Cedars-Sinaï Medical Center in Los-Angeles, he joined the department of cardiology at Charles Nicolle Hospital in Rouen in 1977 and became Director of the Department. He became widely recognized for having performed the first balloon dilatation of the aortic valve for the treatment of calcific aortic stenosis in 1985 and then conceived and developed after 10 years of research, the technique of transcatheter implantation of aortic valves (TAVI), performing the first ever TAVI case in Rouen in 2002. This last innovative technology (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: TAVI) has opened a revolutionary less invasive way of treating aortic stenosis in patients at high risk for conventional surgery. The disruptive technology is today recognized by the whole medical community as a breakthrough with a durable impact on the pattern of medical practice. More than 150 000 patients have been treated worldwide, and TAVI has been approved by the FDA in the USA since 2011. He is still strongly involved with the development of new devices for TAVI. Prof Cribier had received many prestigious scientific distinctions and awards in France, Europe, United States, South America, Israel and Asia for his pioneering work, and in 2012, he obtained the most recognized top French national distinction, the Legion of Honour received from the hands of Prof Alain Carpentier, the world famous cardiac surgeon. He has published more than 600 indexed articles in the field of interventional cardiology, PCI, and valvular disease and innovative technologies.
Overview
Prof Sibert has been a urologist at Charles Nicolle hospital in Rouen, France since 1988. After completing his surgical residency, he was successively Assistant-Head of Clinic and University-Hospital Practitioner in the Urology Department of Rouen Teaching Hospital. He is currently Associate Professor at the University of Rouen. He has developed a particular expertise in the field of medical education, especially with regard to assessment of clinical competence in the field of surgery and urology. He holds a DEA in Surgical Sciences, a PhD thesis, an authorization to conduct research and a university diploma in Pedagogy through Simulation in Health Sciences. His areas of expertise include andrology, male infertility and more specifically non-invasive surgery for benign prostatic hypertrophy. He has in particular introduced and developed the technique of endoscopic enucleation by Holmium laser (HoLEP) in the Department of Urology of the CHU, with several hundred patients operated with this technique to its credit. He is a member of the Medical Training Center teaching board, where he is particularly involved in developing surgical training programs and evaluating their validity and their impact on professional practices and quality of care. He is author or co-author of more than 150 indexed articles in the field of medical education, andrology and minimally invasive surgical techniques of BPH.
Overview

Pr Jean-Marc Baste has been a consultant in General and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Rouen University Hospital, Normandy, France, since 2008.

He is a specialist in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and has been involved in international trainings (VATS and RATS) since 2011.

He is also active in the development of team simulation in thoracic surgery and improvement of surgical safety in the modern environment of minimally invasive surgery.

He is a member of the French Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Society (FTCVS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgery (ESTS).

For 3 years, his team has developed a breakthrough in RATS using combined multimodal images :

  • 3D planning
  • pleural dye tanning
  • virtual reality
  • Fluorescence

This combination of images allows a new concept of precision navigation for lung resection which we call : Thoraco-Navigation (ThoracoNavigation is an assisted surgery technique. NeuroNavigation is a guided surgery technique).

This ThoracoNavigation system will open a new Era of Thoracic surgery for early stage cancer treatment.

Dr. Puneet K. One of the finest , probably the best educational course on TAVI that i have attended. It was an absolute honour and privilege to learn the science from Prof. Alain Cribier and his team (family) of doctors who are globally regarded as pioneers of percutaneous aortic valve implantation. They are exceptionally gifted doctors and teachers, very willing to impart knowledge and share their experiences, truly greatness and humility personified.
