Until June 2019, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. Previously, Prof. Szajewska served as a member of the Council and then as the General Secretary of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). She also served as the Secretary of the ESPGHAN Committee on Nutrition. Most recently (January 2019), she joined the Board of Directors of the International Scientitic Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics.

Prof. Szajewska has broad interests in paediatric nutrition but her research focuses on the effects of early dietary interventions on later outcomes, the gut microbiota modifications such as with probiotics and/or prebiotics, and diarrhoeal diseases. She is or has been actively involved in several European Union-funded research projects. She is an enthusiastic advocate for the practice of evidence-based medicine.

She has co-authored more than 320 publications. In 2020, Prof. Szajewska has been ranked as one of the world’s top 2% most-cited researchers.

Professeur dans le département de Gastroentérologie de l'hôpital Saint-Antoine (APHP, Paris, France), co-directeur de l'équipe « Microbiote, Intestin et inflammation » (INSERM CRSA) et chef du groupe Imipath (INRA, MICALIS).

Harry Sokol est un expert internationalement reconnu dans les domaines des maladies inflammatoires chroniques de l’intestin (MICI) et du microbiote intestinal. Il a publié plus de 240 articles sur ces sujets, est reviewer pour plusieurs revues majeures (dont Gut, Gastroenterology, Mucosal Immunology, ISME journal, Cell Host & Microbes, Nature Methods, Nature Reviews Immunology, Nature et Science). Son travail sur le rôle du microbiote intestinal dans la pathogenèse des MICI a abouti à des articles marquants décrivant les anomalies du microbiote associée aux MICI et le rôle de la bactérie commensale Faecalibacterium prausnitzii essentielle dans l'homéostasie intestinale et dans les MICI.

Actuellement, son travail se concentre sur le déchiffrement des interactions microbiote intestinal (y compris les virus et les champignons) -hôte dans la santé et les maladies afin de mieux comprendre leur pathogenèse et développer des traitements innovants. Harry Sokol a reçu une subvention ERC en 2016 pour développer une thématique de recherche sur les liens entre microbiote intestinal et métabolisme du tryptophane dans les pathologies.

Outre la recherche fondamentale, il participe également à la recherche translationnelle, est président du Groupe Français de Transplantation Fécale (GFTF) et coordonne notamment trois essais contrôlés randomisés évaluant la transplantation de microbiote fécale dans la maladie de Crohn et la rectocolite hémorragique.
