Tom has been a Respiratory Therapist for over 27 years, most of that time in a leadership role.  During his career he has worked in pediatrics, burns, LTACH, Industry and transport.   He is a published author and has presented locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.  His former roles include Clinical Director of Respiratory Care at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center and Clinical Manager at Shriners Hospital for Children-Cincinnati.  Tom is currently the System Director of Respiratory, Sleep, EEG, PFT and Pulmonary Rehab for St Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern KY and Southeast IN.

Lluís Blanch MD, PhD

Dr. Blanch's research interests include, but are not limited to, translational investigation of lung and brain injuries, mechanical ventilation, digital therapies and artificial intelligence applied to monitoring of respiratory and hemodynamic signals of critical patients. He has received numerous grants from public and non-profit organizations and has more than 235 Publications indexed in Pub Med with an H index of 44.

He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, President of the Spanish Society of Intensive Medicine and Coronary Units, as well as President of the Catalan Critical Care Society and member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine Council up to the 2019 congress. Dr. Blanch is a member of the editorial board of several journals and a reviewer for the most prestigious journals in the fields of respiratory and critical care.


His main research fields are:

1) surfactant catabolism and development surfactant protection;

2) clinical development of point of care ultrasound in NICU and PICU;

3) new ventilatory strategies (NAVA and NHFOV) for pediatric and neonatal forms of respiratory failure;

4) epidemiology of neonatal and pediatric ARDS;

5) development of clinical management of neonatal jaundice.

He published 186 papers in extenso. Most of them in journals in the first quartile of the

“pediatrics” or “critical care” list. He also authored 19 between monographies and chapters

in books; editor of one monography. He wrote the introduction of 3 monography and gave

more than 200 presentations to international meetings/congresses often upon invitation.

(2007), the Italian National Award for Neonatal Research (2010), the ESPR Young

Investigator Award (2010) and the Bengt Robertson Award for Surfactant Research in


He has been Deputy Chair of “Respiratory Section” of the European Society for Pediatric and

Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC) since 2011 to 2016. In oct 2016 he has been elected as

ESPNIC Secretary. He also serves as the European Society for Pediatric Research (ESPR)

Scientific Content Manager and ESPR Officer for Accreditation European Society for Pediatric

Research since 2013. He has been Referee for several major international journals in the

general medicine, critical care and pediatric field. He also served as Referee for several

national and international grant programs (Italy, France, Canada, Germany, Netherland, South

Africa, EU).
